New Orleans Part VII The Results Of The Trip

Well, after the visit of New Orleans your head is full of different impressions. The most interesting thing is that you recall only good impressions and forget about everything negative that has happened to you during the trip. The endless holiday and music remain into your memory. Leaving the city you understand that you ve visited the unique city, that you ve touched something special during your trip. New Orleans, at least its historical part is a pedestrian part, what is a rarity for the USA. However, I assure you not to be afraid of the fact that you have to go much on foot. The city is not big and you won’t feel tired. Moreover I can tell you that it will be possible to receive certain pleasure from your walks. One of the nicknames of New Orleans is Big Easy (the only thing I ask you - do not say this to the local inhabitants, they don’t like it terribly). The musicians gave this nickname to the city. It is because of that thing that they could always find the job there. But exactly that nickname characterizes the atmosphere of the city. New Orleans is the city of the greatest relaxation. Everything is cheerful, easy and musical here. It will be better not to speak with the local citizens and try to avoid the desert streets and quarters. Unfortunately, the situation with the criminality is very tough in New Orleans. At any moment you can be robbed or perhaps one of the citizens in bad mood could tell you everything what he thinks about you and not only you. And remember that they won’t find special words to express their opinion and use rude, course and brutal words. The only escape for you is that you’ll understand only a few words from their speech. However being in New Orleans you’ll have such impression that life goes under the laws here, the clocks go slowly or in general everything stands motionless. And the spirit of adventure and mystics you can feel everywhere. It is possible often to meet white cats in the city. I found out that they are widely used in Voodoo priests’ rituals. Voodoo practiced here from the ancient times till nowadays. There are many mystic shops in the streets and you can find out your future in every shop and just on the street. So, making a small summary from everything that I’ve told you being in New Orleans do not forget: to visit the French market that is full of fruits, souvenirs, products of silver and a lots of carnival masks; to make a trip down the Mississippi river on a boat of a wheel steamship “Creole Queen” and to have a wonderful dinner in the ship’s restaurant; to take a ride on the streetcars or the beautiful carriage; to visit St Louis church – the symbol of the city; this church is the first and the oldest cathedral in America; to taste the sea products only in local restaurants with fresh beer that is made not far from the restaurant; to taste the cuisine of the New Orleans such as jambalaya, soup gumbo and others; to throw the coin into the street musician’s hat. The saxophone in his hands will immediately become alive and the melody will make you cry and you will prefer to fly into endless blue New Orleans’ sky.
